Amanda Bossard graduated from high school in 1992 and began an education in marine science at Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage. Bossard started her career in commercial seafood at the age of 1999, after she began working as a crew member on the F/V Sunset the 65' halibut schooner turned to salmon tender with Murat Aritan, a commercial fisherman since 1993. Bossard is now engaged to Aritan and they have joined together to assert their rights to the industry. They believe in conservative, sustainable managing of the renewable resources for seafood. Otolith is an independent wholesale distributor of seafood that was started by a woman in Philadelphia in 2007, by a mother of two young children: Bella age 3 and Andre age 1. Bossard in 2007, mother of two children Bella aged 3 and Andre 1 and returning to Philadelphia from her home in Canada, launched Otolith as a direct-market wholesale seafood distributor. Bossard's daughter Isabella, age 12, and son Andre aged 10 visit each year each year to Southeast Alaska to work in the position of deckhand throughout the salmon wild season. In a small 42 salmon troller using hooks and lines to catch their targeted salmon, they join Aritan for two months of selling to local processors, and then continuing to grow their direct market seafood items sold via Otolith Sustainable Seafood by way by purchasing custom processing capabilities of small processors to create unique wild seafood products that reflect their passion for quality as well as environmental sustainability.
